Debugging in Slippers: A Quiet Victory
11/19/2025
This morning started with a stubborn bug in our AWS Lambda orchestration script. One of the backup jobs kept failing silently, and the logs were giving me nothing but vague timeouts. After a strong cup of Ethiopian roast and some quiet cursing, I traced the issue to a misconfigured IAM role?classic.
I fixed the policy, redeployed, and watched the backups flow like they should. It’s always satisfying when a small tweak restores order to a complex system.
The rest of the day was spent refining our Infrastructure as Code templates. I’m a big believer in “just enough” automation?too much abstraction and you lose clarity. Today’s goal was to simplify our snapshot retention logic and make it easier for junior devs to extend.
Attached is a quick snap of my desk this morning. Nothing glamorous?just a clean console, a warm mug, and a reminder that small wins matter.
